Gary and Kurin Haleamau – Kawili
To mix ingredients, blend, be entwined with individual gifts of music and dance; with Aloha is who we are – Kawili.
Gary Haleamau of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii began his musical career at an early age; first as a solo artist then traveling with Hawaiian music groups throughout the world sharing his amazing talent. He recorded his first single release at the age of 12 and 14 additional album length recordings. Gary is a recipient of the “2008 Na Hoku Hanohano Award for “Best Religious Album of the Year”, and together with Kurin and wife Sheldeen, recorded their first album length recording “Pilipa?a”.
Kurin Pomaika’imaikeakua Haleamau of Las Vegas, Nevada, is the son of Gary and Sheldeen Haleamau. Kurin, a gifted singer-musician, was a recipient of the Folklife Apprenticeship grant from the Nevada Arts Council in 2008. Since then, Kurin has excelled in his musical career as an accomplished slack-key-bass guitarist, singer with Kawili and aspiring record producer.
Collectively, as Kawili we continue to blend and share our love for Hawaiian music and dance. “Aloha kekahi i kekahi” (Love one another)
Hawaiian music expresses “Aloha”, defines our uniqueness, heals and gives hope to mankind, and will forever be in our heart.
