Dana Adobe Cultural Center to Host Exhibit on World War II
NIPOMO, CA- The Dana Adobe Cultural Center is currently hosting an exhibit to honor Veterans of World War II featuring paintings by renowned California watercolorist artist, Milford Zornes and Millard Sheets, who were official artists for the U.S. military in the China-Burma-India theatre of war.
The exhibition will run from August 11th, 2019 through Veteran’s Day, November 11th, 2019. The Dana Adobe Cultural Center Gallery will be open to the public from 11 AM to 3 PM daily. Admission is $5 per person (free for DANA members and children under 12 years of age).
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the invasion of Normandy and our veterans Remembrance display will feature photos, uniforms, and artifacts from World War II with a strong emphasis on local area members who served. On display we have the official Honor Roll commemorating 60+ men who served in WW II from Nipomo and surrounding communities. Dana researched each man and collaborated 2 volumes of data, photographs, and information of their travels during the war. During the exhibition’s run, military vehicles of the period will be on display, as well as a speaker series covering WWII and war-related subjects.
This exhibit marks a special milestone for the Dana Adobe Cultural Center as we celebrate the 1- year anniversary of the opening of the Cultural Center and the 20th anniversary of the Dana Adobe Nipomo Amigos, the non-profit organization is responsible for the preservation of the Adobe. We truly believe that this exhibit showcasing our Veterans of WWII (featuring the art of Milford Zornes and Millard Sheets) will be our biggest and best display yet. The Honor Roll combines community and heritage for our small town.
