Spokes Offers Introduction to Strategic Planning Class
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (June 25, 2024) — Spokes, an organization providing resources to support and empower the nonprofit community, will offer a new online class, Introduction to Strategic Planning, on July 23. The class will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and requires advance registration.

Presented by nonprofit expert and Spokes CEO Michael Simkins, Introduction to Strategic Planning will introduce attendees to the basic components of a simple strategic plan for their organization. 

SImkins will cover strategic planning fundamentals, including who should be involved in the process, the necessary components to include, how many years out to plan, process tips and how to put the plan to use once it’s written.

“Strategic planning doesn’t have to be a long, painful process, although it can feel quite intimidating, especially for smaller nonprofits,” said Simkins. “This class will provide the basic skills to help your organization overcome the ‘overwhelm’ mindset and set your strategic planning in motion.”

About the Presenter: Michael Simkins Ed. D. (pictured below).

Michael has been a member of several nonprofit boards and served as board secretary, treasurer, and president. His professional experience spans the education and nonprofit sectors, from being a school principal in Los Osos and Cal Poly lecturer to CEO of a major Silicon Valley nonprofit. Currently, he is past president at San Luis Obispo Repertory Theatre, president of his property owners association, a director of the SLO Ski Club, and Spokes’ CEO.
